John began performing in public in April of 1968. He was 14 years old and was the drummer/vocalist for the rock band "The Blues Experience". Inside of three years time he would be playing five instruments: drums, bass guitar, guitar, piano and trumpet. By 1972 he scaled this list down to drums, piano, keyboards and bass guitar. By this time he had started to build his own home recording studio and was learning the concepts of sound reinforcement. His primary interest however was to become a professional songwriter, composer, and record producer. In addition John would study arranging and orchestration. He never stopped working as a vocalist and drummer and performed with many local musicians professionally, while studying music at at the Julliard night school from 1971 to 1973, and working with his piano teacher and mentor, Anthony Polito from 1971 to 1975. During this time frame John studied drum techniques with Carl Wolf. To date John leads his own vocal group, "The Dumonts", as well as performing as solo "Oliver Dumont".  John also operates a part time sound company with his partner known as  Ambient Sound. He also works with other performers and is looking forward to a successful run as the newest member of "Park Ave".
